The annual winter water level reduction is scheduled to begin Monday, October 14, 2024. Long Lake, Wilson Creek Flowage, Elk Lake, Duroy Lake, Solberg Lake, and Musser Lake will be drawn down eight to ten inches by Saturday, October 19, 2024. Sailor Creek Flowage and Prentice Flowage will be drawn down by six inches.
According to David Kempen, the Dams Superintendent for the Price County Highway Department, "These overwinter drawdowns are done to prevent shoreline degradation, control aquatic invasive species, and provide water storage capacity to mitigate spring flooding. Levels will return to normal pool in the spring as the snow melts."
