On the morning of Tuesday, July 12, 2022, Jamie Goffard noticed a 3-year old child standing in water. No adult was present, and the child was unable to speak. Jamie picked the child out of the water and began efforts to locate an adult or parent of the child.
Deputy Logan Pontbriand arrived on the scene and attempted to assist in locating the parent or a member of the child’s family.
The deputy found an open door at a condominium nearby. After some investigation, the deputy discovered the autistic boy's grandmother was not aware he had left the condominium.
It is believed that Jamie's quick thinking and efforts saved the boy’s life. The Vilas County Sheriff's Office presented Jamie with a Citizen Lifesaving Award and remarked they are thankful for his efforts.
