RUSK COUNTY:  TWO ARRESTED IN ALLEGED RECORDING OF CLOSED SESSION MEETING

According to Sheriff Phil Grassmann, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, Rusk County IT Department, and Chippewa County Sheriff's Office have been investigating a crime for the last several weeks regarding illegal recording of a closed session meeting.

The county board meeting where the alleged illegal recording took place was held on August 26, 2025.  Two siblings, in their thirties, have been arrested and charged with violating WI SS 968.31.

Sheriff Grassman stated that illegally recording a closed session meeting "impedes the ability of a governmental body to discuss matters with reasonable expectation of privacy."  He added, "It makes no difference to me if you are elected or appointed to local office, a member of the general public, or what position or title you hold.  If you commit or attempt to commit a crime in Rusk County, you will be investigated and arrested if there is probable cause that such a crime was committed."
